Facebook Comments for WordPress…Notifications!

Back in April I did a post on how to get your Facebook Comments for WordPress working, and it’s been pretty popular, but since then folks have brought up new questions and issues.

The most frequently asked (solvable) question we get is about notifications.  Facebook Comments for WordPress provides several options for being notified when someone leaves a comment on your blog.

These options are great, less one problem.  They don’t work.  Not at all.

Email notifications won’t work, so I don’t recommend wasting your time but you can get Facebook notifications to work.  Once set up, you, and anyone else you specify will receive notifications right in your Facebook Notifications tab (just like you get notified about everything else).

Here’s how to do it.

From any Facebook comments stream on your own site, click the settings option.  Once that opens find the moderation settings.  Be sure you’re logged into Facebook when you do this.  Enter your name, and the names of any others you’d like to receive notifications when comments are left.  Note that these folks are going to be moderators and will have the ability to remove posts, ban people, etc.

Scroll to the bottom and hit save and you’re done.  You’ll receive notices of comments from this point forward.  Now I haven’t checked this, but if you have your Facebook email options set to enable emails when you get comments, you “should” receive an emails for these comments as well, but this can get very noisy, so I don’t recommend enabling it if you can help it.

Hope this helps.  🙂
